Journey

I’ve held the hands of five loved ones

as they readied themselves for that final journey

Six, if you count my dog

And it was the same with all six in the end,

when this earthly journey was over,

it was all about love

Whether holding a wrinkled hand or a paw

Giving thanks for love shown and shared,

it comes down to love

How much it was shared

How it changed your life for the better

When you had enough supply

Or worse, when you were cheated

How much or how little

How expensive or how cheap

If it was given freely or at a price

In the end, it won’t matter how much money you made

Where you lived

What you wore or drove

How successful your career

But how well you loved that mattered

at the end of your journey
